opening day 2003
   fenway park // april 11, 2003

Opening day was such a bust this year. After I begged and begged for tickets, after Nick and I raced back from NYC on the day of the game, after we drove around Fenway for almost an hour looking for a parking spot and then sprinted to the park, it starting pouring.

Random story: we were so desperate for a spot that I broke down and did the whole "God, if you find us a parking spot I'll go to church tomorrow" thing. Sure enough, 10 seconds later we pass a woman pulling out a spot, hidden behind a parked bus - the perfect spot, just far enough from the hydrant and we didn't even get a ticket! So, yes, I held up my end of the bargain and went to church the next day... turns out it was Psalm Sunday, the dreaded 2 hour mass... with singing. Eek. (the end)

Anyway, we braved the rain for a bit...

... and waited longer than most people...

... but eventually called it quits and headed to some random bar down the street...

... where all the Clemens photos rightfully hang upside down.

Now get this... they called the game (as they should have, it was pouring) and rescheduled "opening day" for the next morning (Saturday, 11am) where'd they play a doubleheader into the afternoon. So, we journey in town again only to get 5 minutes from Fenway and hear the rumors that the game was rained out yet again - the thing is it wasn't even raining!!! Even though the skies were blue and it was warm out, they still cancelled the opener and then rescheduled it for August 8th even though the afternoon game kicked off at it's schedule time (and the Sox lost to Tampa Bay anyway). Sucks.

Four tickets, four kids. Me, Nick, Kelli (Nick's sister), Lt. Rob...

... all on our way to meet Dig and Mom for dinner @ Jimmy's.

Just a few random shots of the park.

Check out the new seats above the Green Monster (someone said $100 a ticket - that's crazytalk) and the new ads appended to the scoreboard (For "Let's go down to Bob's" stores? I mean, come'on). The built-in billboards (e.g. Volvo) are brand new this year also.

The Prudential building almost disappearing in the Opening Day fog.

I think that Fleet scoreboard is new too.

Anyone know if all this new advertising is a Theo thing?
