fire at stanton and essex
   sunday october 19, 2003
It was around the 6th inning of the Yankess game that when I first smelled the smoke.

I grabbed the digicam and checked out the scene from my fire escape.

Then grabbed Andy from next door and ran outside.

Though we could see the flames, my digicam missed out.

The police pushing us back, we ran to the roof for a better look.

Smoke everywhere.

I think it was the furniture store across the street that caught fire.

Through the smoke you could hear the sound of firemen kicking out windows and busting down doors.

No fewer than seven firetrucks on the scene.

Essex street blockaded.

Hook and ladder action.

Back on the fire escape, a crowd of onlookers on the corner.

The aftermath. The news people said it was a 3 alarm fire.

No one was seriously hurt, one person went to the hospital, and oh yeah, it was a carpet store, not a furniture store.
