makeshift catskills adventure
   july 10-11, 2003

So, we got this house in the Catskills for the summer. It's pretty rad: three bedrooms, sleeps around 9 people, wrap around deck and all the trimmings. We even have a couple of cars scattered throughout the city to get us up there. Still, we rarely go up... it's usually one of those things were in the beginning of the week everyone's all wishy-washy, waiting for someone else to commit to going. Then, once somebody commits, everyone jumps on the bandwagon until someone bails last minute and everyone else ends up bailing as well. We're all such losers.

Anyway, on a random Friday night - after when we decided against journeying upstate - I met up with Tully, AK and two random girls - Nick and Erin - for the tail end of happy hour at Lakeside Lounge. Two hours later, all five of us were on our way upstate.

It's usually a two and a half hour drive up - less than that when it's 10pm on a empty FDR. Here's me and Tully, battling it out Jenga style around 1am. I've got this one video clip that has got to be about 50 seconds long of Tully pulling off what may be the best Jenga move of all time. I'd add it to teendrama if I wasn't already 50mb over my disk space quota.

Seriously, the whole one-night-in-the-catskills plan is a winner. We drove up late Friday, spent all day Saturday lounging around, then drove back early Saturday night.

Here, Saturday morning. AK went to pick up Goldie from the shop (again) before we all set off to complete our (ambitious) five-item agenda: eat, hike the waterfall, skate park, driving range, mini golf.

We managed to get our eat on at some overpriced sandwich shop...

... and then hit up the local skatepark.

Randy was here.

Post-driving range, we checked out what has to be the toughest mini golf course of all time. This is (I think) the second hole, note how the entire right side is exposed to the water which means that pretty much anything that's not a hole in one ends up in the river. Stoopid. After two or three 9-putt holes, we raced through the course best-ball style.

Little dog in a little bag. This is Henry. He belongs to Erin.
