teendrama, er, 15 days in review! (w/ exclusive turducken pics!)
I'm behind on teendrama so, loyal reader, you get stuck 12 days worth of teendrama told via 15 pics...
Mon 11/6 - Continuing the "How I Became a Master Chef" thread, JJ and I cooked up some double-breaded fried chicken the other night. That's right, double-dip, double-breaded and then fried up in two inchs of vegetable oil. I think we overdid the double-dip (I felt kind of dirty for like 2 days), but still....
Tues 11/7 - LVHRD (CLL) PHN LCKN (read: Cell Phone Lock-In) @ MOMA. Check your cell phone at the door (they put it in these little ziplock bags) and listen to this really loud band in a really big space with really bad acoustics. Come'on Happy Corp, I'm just busting you - I love you guys! Oh, free beers = good beers.
Btw, every confiscated phone was hung on this 60 ft long wall. Apparently at the end of the night they had some magic internet machine that made all the cellphones ring and light up and the same time. Didn't anyone YouTube that shit? Come'on!
While waiting for the elevator on my way out, I ran into four ninjas (and a Doug.J in a spacesuit). Btw, more pics on Flickr
Wed 11/8 - Jill's Happy Birthday dinner @ Mercadito in the E.Village. Sorry, no photos sucka.
Thur 11/9 - Milberger's #27 bday @ Lolita. Tequila shots = actually not so bad this time. Cool art on the wall made from found refrigerator doors (mrjaymillar, $650 - $1200).Fri 11/10 - Original plan was to do nothing but watch the HD versions of Episodes 2, 3, 4, 5 of Star Wars on Cinemax (oh. man. i. just. nerded. out. so. bad), but Xtina txt'ed me at midnight saying "I'm in a cab outside your apt and we're going to this party." So I went (Adam bday / Heeb mag party in Soho) and ended up double-fisting chipwiches at Lolita at like 3am.
Sat 11/11 - A little Payphone Warriors in the afternoon (special guests Ali.M and Sean from Indonesia!). Although we (me + Christian + Matt + Mike) pitched ourselves as Defending World Champs based on my last two victories, we got whooped. Placed 4 out of 5 teams.
Saturday night = Will Snyder's 8th going away party, this time @ Marshall Stack (yes, again, stoopid Courtney).
Randy made an appearance with his Tiny Tim crutches (eek, he tore his ACL a week ago... and no, it's not my fault this time).
And we ended up at Sing Sing. I only got one song in... one absolutely amazing HYSTERIA duet with Kevin.K. Seriously, they should charge these tourists admission when we're given the mic.
Sun 11/12 - This pic is from a little earlier, but Glamor Magazine Italy (ha!) is doing a piece on teendrama (!!) that requied not only a photoshoot in my apt, but for some select tdrama superstars (Dianne, YP, Courtney) to photoshoot it up too. Courtney + Dianne had to shoot at the photog's apt (, suckas!). Says Ms. C:
psst...my photoshoot for glamour was awesome. not!
it wasn't bad per say. more awkward than anything. i had to pretend that her bedroom was my bedroom, and lounge around on her bed while she photographed me. i was not feeling the pink batik sheets though.
Which leads us to the MAIN EVENT, which is Alex + Karen's Faux-Thanksgiving Turducken Experiment. Yes, now I recognize that you may be confused so, please, let the Wikipedia explain:
A turducken is a de-boned turkey stuffed with a de-boned duck, which itself is stuffed with a small de-boned chicken. The cavity of the chicken and the rest of the gaps are filled with, at the very least, a highly seasoned breadcrumb mixture or sausage meat, although some versions have a different stuffing for each bird.
... anyway, A + K had, what?, 16 people over (a logistical tables + chairs nightmare!) to enjoy the feast. We all made a little something, pot-luck style. I threw together some sausage mac and cheese which actually turned out to be delicious. Carin made some maple sugar squash thing that tasted like candy. There was some form of veggie turducken too (tofo wrapped in tofo wrapped in tofo?). Kevin.K made some layered cake for dessert (though Daya's apple pie = bestest).
Cut! That! Meat!
And a look inside. That's turkey on the top, duck below that and then some chicken buried at the bottom. The orange blob is stuffing. [dissection guide on Flickr]
Ah, a little pile of turducken. It was actually pretty good though when it's all mushed together it tastes less like three different meats and more like one smooshed together medly of meat flavor.
And to top the weekend off, I am now #1 in the football pool (and in the running for the $600 grand prize) all thanks to the DPStyles Football Pick Generator 2000. Seriously, feel free to use my own weapon against me.
ps: And since I may have piqued your interest about the genre of "nested bird roasts":
The largest recorded nested bird roast is 17 birds, attributed to a royal feast in France in the 19th Century: a bustergophechideckneaealckideverwingailusharkolanine - bustard stuffed with a turkey, a goose, a pheasant, a chicken, a duck, a guinea fowl, a teal, a woodcock, a partridge, a plover, a lapwing, a quail, a thrush, a lark, an ortolan and a passerine. More from the Wikipedia here.
Tues 11/14 - Burrito the size of a Sega Dreamcast at Mexican Radio (sat next to Chris Parnell), followed by drinks with Team Gawker Alumn @ Marshall Stack (yes, again... mark my words, enjoy the space before the UES tourists take it over).
Wed 11/15 - Jackie's bday dinner @
Spotted Pig Florent. May or may not have passed Mia Sorvino on the way out of Spotted Pig. Oh, and Adam, sorry I stole the mustard steak from you.
Thurs 11/16 (projected) - Tech Crunch Nerd Fest @ Bed NY (nerds + drinks + beds = could get ugly) -> Daily Show 10th Anniv party @ Irving.
(whew, all caught up...)
